Traditionally, the Church celebrates the solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ after the Sunday of Trinity. Why? The Body and Blood of Christ is the centre of the Eucharist which we celebrate daily. As we enter the so-called ordinary time, the Eucharist is the mean that nourishes and strengthens us daily.
The Gospel of Luke tells us about the feeding of the 5,000. However, Luke puts this story in a different context. Luke places it between Herod’s question, “Who is this about whom I hear such things?” and Peter’s response to Jesus’ question about who he thought Jesus was: “You are the Messiah of God.” In Luke the feeding is not the result of Jesus’ compassion for the crowd but is instigated by the disciples. They wanted Jesus to send the crowd away to town. Instead, Jesus tells the disciples to give them some food on their own. Hence, Christ allows to contribute to the feeding as well.
The passage is meant to remind us of two feedings in the Old Testament: the feeding of the Israelites in the desert and Elisha’s feeding of 100 people with 20 loaves in 2 Kings 4:42-44. It is also connected to the institution of the Eucharist. As in the Last Supper accounts in Matthew, Mark, and Luke and in Paul’s account in 1 Corinthians 11:23-24, Jesus takes bread, looks up to heaven, blesses the bread, breaks it, and then gives it to the disciples. In using this exact language, Luke is reminding his readers that in this miracle Jesus is doing more than feeding hungry people as God did for the Israelites and the prophet Elisha did as well. The bread he gives is his body, which he will continue to give as often as the community breaks bread in remembrance of him in the Eucharist.
We believe that Jesus is truly present to us in the elements of bread and wine. Each time we celebrate this sacrament, we prepare for and make our contribution to the Kingdom of God. This Eucharistic celebration, as the Second Vatican Council taught us, is the source and summit of the Christian life.
During this week (on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday), many have made their contribution in preparing our 120 children for the sacrament of confirmation. I am thinking of their parents, grandparents and sponsors who through their faith commitment have given good examples of faith to their children. I am thinking of volunteers (Monica, Betty, David, Steve and Michael) who have accompanied the candidates throughout the four weeks of preparation. So, I want to congratulate all who are involved in this celebration, especially to those who have been sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. May you be strengthened by them so that you can give witness to Christ in a challenging world. A special thanks also go to the priests who conferred the sacrament of confirmation on behalf of Bishop Vincent: Rev. Msgr. Ron McFarlane, Chancelor of the Diocese of Parramatta, and Very Rev. Fernando Montano, Vicar General of the Diocese of Parramatta.
In the next two weekend Masses we will conduct our parish counting and survey. The data will help us in our pastoral planning for the future. Important is to note that we will not share the collected information with any third party. We will safeguard the privacy. Thank you for your help in this matter as well.
God bless

First Reading Gen 14:18-20
Melchizedek king of Salem brought bread and wine; he was a priest of God Most High. He pronounced this blessing:
‘Blessed be Abraham by God Most High, creator of heaven and earth,
and blessed be God Most High for handing over your enemies to you.’
And Abraham gave him a tithe of everything.

4.The Lord has sworn an oath he will not change. ‘You are a priest for ever, a priest like Melchizedek of old.’ (R.)
Second Reading 1 Cor 11:23-26
This is what I received from the Lord, and in turn passed on to you: that on the same night that he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread, and thanked God for it and broke it, and he said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this as a memorial of me.’ In the same way he took the cup after supper, and said, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.’ Until the Lord comes, therefore, every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are proclaiming to his death.
Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
I am the living bread from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats this bread will live for ever.
Alleluia!
Gospel Lk 9:11-17
Jesus made the crowds welcome and talked to them about the kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.
It was late afternoon when the Twelve came to him and said, ‘Send the people away, and they can go to the villages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.’ He replied, ‘Give them something to eat yourselves.’ But they said, ‘We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for all these people.’ For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, ‘Get them to sit down in parties of about fifty.’ They did so and made them all sit down. Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing over them; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd. They all ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps remaining were collected they filled twelve baskets.
Communion Antiphon
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him, says the Lord.

ALPHA is an 11-week program where each week we come together on a Wednesday evening to explore a topic tied to the core beliefs of our Faith. It is not a bible study nor an unpacking of the catechesis. We share a meal, (provided each week by our fabulous catering team), watch a video and have a chat about the things you bring to the table. In other words, we discuss the things that you have been curious about and answer questions you have about our faith. ALPHA is a very enjoyable experience that simply brings people together to explore, connect, share, and enhance our Faith.
So if you are interested, our next ALPHA will begin on Wednesday, 30th July 2025 at 7.00pm. It will be held in the school hall at St. Michael’s Primary School, 3-5 Chapel Lane,
Baulkham Hills.
To register please scan the QR Code below and complete our online registration form, or click this link: https://www.parishofbaulkhamhills.org.au/alpha/
We hope to see you there.
Homelessness is never a choice. Young sisters Abigail and Isabella* have never known a stable, safe and loving home. All they have known is a life of instability, neglect and abuse. A life of constant moves, and periods of homelessness, including times living in a cold and crowded caravan or their mother’s car.
As children, they had no choice in their situation and no one to turn to. Now, as young adults, they finally have the chance to break free from the impacts of homelessness to create a stable and caring home of their own. With your help and support, they can look forward to a brighter future that’s full of possibility they could never imagine before.
St Michael’s Conference of St. Vincent de Paul Society’s 2025 Winter Appeal will be held during each Mass on next weekend 21/22 June. Our Lady of Lourdes Conference will be conducting over two weekends of 28/29 June and 5/6 July.
Please scan the QR code on the poster on the notice board to donate directly either to St Michael’s Conference or Our Lady of Lourdes Conference. Thank you.
