Dear friends,
Greetings from Vienna where we stayed for 2 days before heading to our final stopover in Prague. So far, our trip went well. We enjoyed sightseeing tours and prayed at magnificent cathedrals and holy shrines. For me, the climax was the visit to Our Lady of Czestochowa in Poland. It coincides with the Marian month of May. This stop at the shrine of the Black Madonna provided me with the much-needed time for prayers, reflection and thanksgiving. There, I am reminded of the continuous grace that God showers on us while we journey through our earthly life. Particularly, I am aware of those who are grieving the death of their loved ones. They are always in my prayers. May our deceased parishioners experience the love and the peace of God.
Although I have knowledge of the “ethnic cleansing” of Jews by the Nazis, it is always disturbing to be confronted again with the dark side of human history. During our tour, we also stopped at Auschwitz-Birkenau where over 1.4 million Jews and Christians were “exterminated”. Amongst the victims were also Edith Stein and Maximilian Kolbe, who were later canonized by Pope Saint John Paul II.
It is sad to see that wars have now become the preferred means in dealing with conflicts! As Pope Leo XIV said earlier, we need “an unarmed and disarming peace, humble and persevering. It comes from God, God who loves us all unconditionally.”
While I am overseas, I also received an email from the Diocesan chancery reminding me that the parish has an outstanding debt of 61K. This amount results from unpaid bills and charges dating back to 2018. It is frustrating news as we are on a good path towards financial recovery and stability. The Parish Finance Committee and I need to find a way to clear this debt and move forward in our effort to consolidate our parish finances.
Despite of financial difficulties, we cannot ceased investing in maintaining our parish facilities and in building up a spiritual, faith filled and compassionate community. Having invested in the repairs of OLOL and St. Michael’s roofs etc., our next focus is to replace the 45 years old carpet at St Michael’s. So far, there is a quote of nearly 110K for the replacement of the carpet. We can’t afford this amount. So, we will continue to search for affordable options.
At the same time, we continue with the renovation of the old church. This project is important for our parish life as a restored old church may provide us with opportunities for spiritual and social outreach. I have been advised that the interior demolition (including the removal of asbestos) and roof pressure cleaning have been completed. The pressure cleaning of the roof will allow us to detect possible leaks within the roof structure. I believe that soon we may be able to use the old church again, at least for few parish functions. The cost of the interior demolition and roof pressure cleaning amount to 24K which is covered by the sale of brass plates and donations.
To conclude my Sunday’s editorial, I would like to express my gratitude to Fr Kevin, Fr Thomas and especially to Monica. Carrying much of administrative and liturgical duties during my pilgrimage.
I will return on 31st of May. Till then, I wish you all a wonderful Sunday .

Proclaim a joyful sound and let it be heard; proclaim to the ends of the earth: The Lord has freed his people, alleluia.
Some men came down from Judaea and taught the brothers, ‘Unless you have yourselves circumcised in the
tradition of Moses you cannot be saved.’ This led to
disagreement, and after Paul and Barnabas had had a long argument with these men it was arranged that Paul and Barnabas and others of the church should go up to Jerusalem and discuss the problem with the apostles and elders.
Then the apostles and elders decided to choose delegates to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; the whole church concurred with this. They chose Judas known as Barsabbas and Silas, both leading men in the brotherhood, and gave them this letter to take with them: ‘The apostles and elders, your brothers, send greetings to the brothers of pagan birth in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia. We hear that some of our members have disturbed you with their demands and have unsettled your minds. They acted without any authority from us, and so we have decided unanimously to elect delegates and to send them to you with Barnabas and Paul, men we highly respect who have dedicated their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accordingly we are sending you Judas and Silas, who will confirm by word of mouth what we have written in this letter. It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves not to saddle you with any burden beyond these essentials: you are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from fornication. Avoid these, and you will do what is right. Farewell.’
(R) O God, let all the nations praise you!
In the spirit, the angel took me to the top of an enormous high mountain and showed me Jerusalem, the holy city,
coming down from God out of heaven. It had all the
radiant glory of God and glittered like some precious jewel of crystal-clear diamond. The walls of it were of a great height, and had twelve gates; at each of the twelve gates there was an angel, and over the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel; on the
east there were three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. The city walls stood on twelve foundation stones, each one of which bore the name of one of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
I saw that there was no temple in the city since the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb were themselves the temple, and the city did not need the sun or the moon for light, since it was lit by the radiant glory of God and the Lamb was a lighted torch for it..
Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
All who love me will keep my words, and my Father will love them and we will come to them.
Alleluia!
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘If anyone loves me he will keep my word,
and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him and make our home with him.
Those who do not love me do not keep my words. And my word is not my own:
it is the word of the one who sent me.
I have said these things to you while still with you;
but the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything
and remind you of all I have said to you. Peace I bequeath to you,
my own peace I give you,
a peace the world cannot give, this is my gift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
You heard me say:
I am going away, and shall return.
If you loved me you would have been glad to know that I am going to the Father,
for the Father is greater than I.
I have told you this now before it happens,
so that when it does happen you may believe.’
If you love me, keep my commandments, says the Lord, and I will ask the Father and he will send you another Paraclete, to abide with you for ever, alleluia
